a little fabric printing + where i’ve been + thermofax screens

Howdy my fellow paint flinging stitching quilting fabric nerds. It’s a cold day here in Michigan. Not all of the leaves are off the trees yet but with our temperatures going into the teens at night? The trees should be naked in no time.

This time of year always makes me feel reflective. Regardless of the fact that I yap my butt off on social media, I’m a fairly private person. I’ve just always felt protective of certain areas of my life and I’m not one to overshare. But I feel like I should explain my abrupt disappearance from the blog.

2017 has been a challenging year in terms of health issues. Nothing catastrophic but more like one thing after another that can’t be ignored and takes more than an aspirin and a nap to resolve. It finally all came to a head in early October when I had surgery to fix everything up. I’m still on the mend and prior to the slice and dice? I was just generally miserable and didn’t feel like doing what I love to do – make art, talk to you guys, all that good stuff.

I just don’t want to come across as some weirdo flake that just dropped off the face of the planet because there were good reasons for it – I am just the type of person who hides when I feel unwell so I went to ground like a terrier chasing a gopher.

ANYWAY, that’s that. And we are moving on. I cleaned off my print table today and I’m pretty sure it was shocked to find itself being used for the purposes of printing fabric. It’s been a little while. I pulled out the handy dandy thermofax screens and printed a little bit on some sheer fabric I got from Dharma Trading. I have an idea for a new stitching piece and I’ve no idea if it will work but we shall soon find out!

I swear I heard Art Brain breathe a huge sigh of relief. She’s been pretty patient with me but also a terrible nag so she’s happy to be starting on a new project.

And while we are on the subject of thermofax screens…if you’ve visited my etsy shop lately you will have noticed that I’m not selling them anymore. The reason? The blue screen that I used to create the screens was discontinued and replaced with a new type of screen that I have very little fondness for (right now). I’ve not been able to make friends with it yet and until I do, I don’t feel ok about selling screens to you all. Who wants a crappily burned thermofax screen? No one, that’s who.

So that’s where I’m at. I’m feeling better but still taking it easy and I think things are going to be looking up from here on out! Onward! 🙂
